# alien fiction to consider the alien fictions generated by big scientists in ir everyday research (v1.1) // video here "alien fiction" - an amateur postmodern theory term referring to the 'everyday beyond strangeness of consciousness / reality' - that is > (..) non-dramatic incommensurable inexpressibly incomprehensible astonishingly anomalous aporetic radically displaced and divergent - phantasmatically bizarre and absurdly paradoxical - rootless autonomous interzonal - pre ontologically incomplete or partially unconstituted - irreconcilably estranged inaccessible ambiguous contested undecided perhaps even unknowable - incongruous dissonance far outside understanding or myths of rationality or reason - formidable to explain assimilate naturalize absorb incorporate co-opt factor-in classify or objectify into standard models values paradigms or representations (symbolic andor otherwise) - neon drenched darkly visionary and extraordinarily xenomorphic - a vibrant bio-electric blue flux lightning lash at the ecstatic hyperreal edge of being [..] > ~ player / researcher robert what what is "big science"? // video here > such questions previously thought to be a matter solely for merely empirical scientific debate have now thankfully attracted themselves back into the nonlinear orbit of partially unformed wonderfully chaotic pre-ontological inquiry emphasising chaos and fragmentation. one idea rather is to help players play improperly - to un-domesticate all too neatly plausible assumptions with impossible hypotheses ~ robert what: how to play big science while big science does not strictly exist 'it' may be seen or treated as "imaginary play" enjoyed simply (if not only) by pretending that it does - through the artificial use of pretence; an evolving metaphor without an object - a quick polite reply / request to join in - to fellow researchers while you're busy 'researching' yourself researcher y: "hey what's that weird/cool stuff you're doing?" researcher x / player one: "not entirely sure. 'big science'? what say we play and find out?" researcher y: "sure why not" despite never quite knowing / understanding b.s - or even feeling the need to - there are many players of big science; a truly collaborative fiction / spectacle the near future origins of b.s one standard myth: that 'big science' was always just another bad in-joke among anonymous nerds; a way of thinking accidentally discovered by a group of university-dulled students as a way to explain to themselves - via trivial language experiments featuring polysyllabic truisms - useless arbitrary efforts and midnight shenanigans to overcome terminal (existential) boredom this potentially bright existentially depressed group were witnesses to the rapid emergence and uncontrolled evolution of increasingly odd and useful ways to describe ir bizarre actions or performances 'in scene' they soon realized however that whatever they tried or talked about was just plain b.s - that they understood what they were doing only superficially eventually they asked "look why don't we - for example - start pretending to pretend to be or act as (say) hot proto/post-scientific alien researchers from a near-future alternative dimension?" they thought that seeing themselves as these imaginary "big scientists" might provide much needed philosophical and aesthetic focus to nightly searches for 'maximum fun' defining "big science" in scene in which you think of "big science" as an absurdist imaginary garme you're (semi consciously) pretending to pretend to play right now in which you're a 'humalien' (human alien) research proto/post-scientist from the near future - performing vital bleeding edge blue skies r&d into vast experimental projects - eg. the everyday beyond strangeness of consciousness / reality aka 'robert what' "big science": your favorite neural software toy used for such research about big science "researchers" consider your inner big scientist researcher (insert lab name tag here eg. "robert what") a multiple use public domain character or thought-form for you 'researchers' are an ongoing private investigation / electronic meditation into eg. memory identity and psychology emerging as test transmissions from the information sea researchers form elite teams or crews who go on epic artistic vision quests to the outer limits of r&d consider your researcher's virtual e-brain as a launch pad for the various 'projects' it helps evolve - reality code fragments of its parallel universe on using "big science" consider big science a kind of alien vision mode that helps researchers think about (eg.) consciousness / reality that is when you've generally no idea what you're doing - andor you realize you've nothing but ideas: "big science" - a way to encounter play with and survive a rapidly evolving and (thankfully) out of control present it's also a way to express - often through coded symbol spaces - the acutely psychedelic sci fi feel experience or unique state of 'now' players or researchers treat big science as: a linguistic mirage - an open art platform - a live action role play - an abstract research engine or alternative (/to) scientific models - a 'dark virtual arg' in development: "how to play big science" a free ('libre public domain by-default') abstract play-state / research space of b.s based r&d // republic of bob
