# heavy bullets an arbitrary fps garme of fract heavy bullets by devolver digital as a mere fps fract by phosfiend systems - and therefore an arbitrary garme that might not need to exist // video here while there's often little wrong about the idea that 'innovation for its own sake is wrong' there's still something disappointing about playing garmes featuring only one or two minor changes additions or improvements to long existing 'conceptual franchises' - especially when those new! elements themselves hardly push the general envelope of intellectual stimulation and philosophical complexity as stated before what this pick n' mix mix n' match style might be really implying is that players want more freedom to choose what type of garme they want to play when and how they want to play it any one single garme entirely locked in to one single set of randomly chosen elements - one aesthetic style one core movement mechanic one mechanic of interaction (eg. shooting) - only offers what one developer has chosen almost at random or without much consideration such garmes appear largely meaningless 'file under random' content; while provide some small measure of throwaway fun they generally waste the life times of human beings playing them without offering even minimal narrative structure or 'nutritional idea density' - a strong foundation of stimulating and challenging ideas which enrich people's lives; a living art ecology not another disposable digital product providing a nutritionally rich dense soup of challenging ideas rather than too simply shoot stuff the human nutritional idea in heavy bullets could be (eg.) "the effects of an enraged gun wielding stranger on the creatures of a strange colorful land" players could discover something interesting and provoking about this lonesome six shooter - where they come from why they're shooting (not just 'because the creatures are attacking') - something about teh garme as an integrated system of meaning and therefore perhaps something about our human condition what heavy bullets and fract have to offer is the potential strength of ir lo-fi aesthetic abstraction to provide possibilities of meaning rather than too simply whatever the devs say they're are directly 'about' - eg. shooting or exploration // republic of bob
