# been watching last samurai standing not bad though unsurprisingly it displays the same old hopelessly tired japanese myths / lies and cultural self-delusions about the somehow intrinsically good samurai class; that is in terms of morals the series has cherry picked the main character's positive traits using *modern* social sensibilities and evolved standards *not* those of the samurai themselves while clearly showing ir as a proud historical butcher of men for martial honour and the psychotic will of ir lord one wonders if any japanese watching this actually believe ey goes on to help the young woman precisely because ey was a good little historical samurai - and not more simply because being a slave to a codified system of power has nothing to do with being a living feeling human and they simply reminds ir of ir own children so far the other guy who looks like an old chinese martial master is a badass like some vicious mad wandering monk; it's all very complex andor not nearly as complex as japanese culture want others to believe - not that they'd particular care if a bunch of artless gaijin don't understand ancient read-only warrior code (which as in my case they too-often don't / don't need to) as far as i can tell doing the right thing and being brave in protecting strangers certainly isn't a core part of the daily cultrally-codified reality of the ancient samurai warrior class // republic of bob
